Neo- Geodynamics of Syria and Assessment for the Seismic and Volcanic Risks

Project Title:

Neo- Geodynamics of Syria and Assessment for the Seismic and Volcanic Risks

Project purpose:

This research aims at studying the active geodynamic in Syria through seismo-tectonic and geological studies, space images data and the assisting systems GIS and GPS, geophysical measurements of studying the impact of the active faults movement in Syria, and the assessment of volcanic and seismic risks.
Summary:
This project has been carried out through:
– Interpretation of satellite images in the field of tectonic studies.
– Carrying out geological studies and field work for many faults of tectonic activity
– Carrying out studies and measurements in the archaeological regions close to the faulty ranges.
– Carrying out geological studies in volcanic regions.
– Carrying out seismic geophysical, electrical and radar measurements for some active faults.
-Carrying out geodesic measurements by using GPS stations on the faults of tectonic activity.
– Geo-dynamic mapping for Syria
– Developing geo-dynamic model for the western regions in Syria
– Preparing the seismo-geo-dynamic map for the region and the initial estimate of the seismic activity.
– Develop plans for equal intensities of seismic lines in Syria.
